about SFC
Lead Cinematographer - Augusto Lopez
When we are young, we have exciting ideas of what we want to do with our lives but as age sets in those wild dreamy notions begin to seem “far-fetched”.
I went from a child that made all his toys come alive through elaborate action scenes to a teenager always experimenting with his dad’s camcorder to an adult with a 9 to 5 and no outlet for my creative juices…then 2009 happened.
I bit the bullet and dived headfirst back into the creative realm. In the course of 2 months, I abandoned the safe confines of a familiar cubicle and a steady paycheck and moved my ass to NYC. It began with photography but quickly evolved into filmmaking. I made time to return to school full-time to focus on the technical aspect of cinematography. My time at SF State taught me a lot about the craft and helped me realize that there’s nothing better than real world experience.
In regards to my name, you can call me Gusto. My full name is Augusto and no, I was not born in August and yes, Mucho Gusto to you too. I fancy dumb one-liners and crass jokes but I always play it safe when the moms and dads are around, so no worries.
On your wedding day, I do not concern myself with “directing” you but instead work in a stealthy manner so that what I capture are moments in their most natural form. Love isn’t planned, it just happens. In a way, that’s how documenting a wedding should be too.
The butterflies in your stomach as the wedding dress goes on, the anticipation of committing to the love of your life as your best man helps you into your blazer, the intimate hand holding that occurs right before you both say I do; those are the magical moments that can’t be planned and that’s the magic I intend to capture.
